Introduction to Modern English Paper Piecing

Siobhan F.

Saturday, June 18

10 am - 1 pm

class $55

Class Kit including: Thread, needles, glue, acrylic templates, and paper pieces will be available at class for $50. Please bring 4-5 fat quarters or quarter yard pieces, scissors, pen or pencil.

Introduction to Modern English Paper Piecing Are you interested in English Paper Piecing (EPP), but unsure how to begin? In this class Siobhan will familiarize you with all the tools and skills you need to start your own EPP journey. Using her original pattern, Star flower, that utilizes a larger paper base, you will learn how to use templates to cut out your fabrics, glue baste your paper pieces, sew with accurate placement, and even use simple fussy cutting to enhance your design. At the end of class you will have the pattern and the skills you need to complete this project as a pillow or a wall hanging, or continue with more blocks to make a traditional quilt. Once you start EPP you won’t be able to stop thinking about all the new ways you can use your fabric stash!

Beginner Free Motion Quilting: Robbie Jehn

Sunday, June 26

11:00-3:00pm

Class $50.00

In this class you will learn Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) basics and practice some simple designs. We will use a home sewing machine. If you have only quilted stippling or loops or have never done any FMQ, this class is for you. It is such a good feeling to piece and then quilt your own “work of art” on your home sewing machine. You will learn how to set up your home machine for FMQ and practice how to move your quilt under the machine. You will practice FMQ straight lines, curved lines, loops and variations. You will then try paisleys, flowers, dot to dot quilting, and other designs that use straight and curved stitching. If you expect to be good at FMQ at the end of this class, you will be disappointed. FMQ takes practice, practice and more practice. Do not despair, each time you FMQ, you will get better. Try to do 10 minutes of practice every time you sit down to sew or piece. You will be pleased with your progress.

Fold Over Magic Bag Class

This bag is very cool!

In this class we will complete a small quilt top and turn it into a bag. Bag pictured is made with a 36”quilt top, but you could do a smaller version if you want. No smaller than 24”. You can quilt your top on class, or bring it quilted. (It could even be a solid piece of fabric if you like) and a backing 4 inches bigger. This will show on the outside of bag. We will make a magic binding for added detail, and a wide strap.
